Film Screening: Bring Her Home & She Draws a Circle

This event is free, but seats are reserved. Film Screening and Artist Discussion with Angela Two Stars and Jaime Black Please join us for a screening of two films: TPT’s documentary, Bring Her Home, and She Draws a Circle, a video performance by artist Jaime Black Both films foreground the power of art and artists to educate and activate awareness about the historical traumas of settler colonialism and the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). Artists Angela Two Stars and Jaime Black work at the intersection of art and storytelling to cultivate healing and inspire action.

EMBRACE + the music of the Ahn Trio James Sewell Ballet reunites with the extraordinary Ahn Trio in a program featuring a reimagining of 2018’s Connections. Like the best embrace, there’s known comfort and new spark combined. The three sisters of the Ahn Trio – Lucia on piano, Angella on violin, and Maria on cello – were born in Seoul, Korea, and educated at the Juilliard School in New York City. These growing up experiences in two cultures, along with their extensive international touring, infuse their celebration of 21st century classical music with a particular flare and style.

This performance runs approx. 90 minutes with one intermission.What makes Chinese dance so splendid? It’s the extensive history and rich culture behind it. With thousands years of history as a valuable artistic treasure unique to China, Chinese poetry provides a foundation in which emotions are expressed in landscape and wisdom is inspired by the changing seasons. Ms. Ying Li, the artistic director of Phoenix Chinese Dance Academy, combines Chinese dance with ancient poetry, leading to the birth of “Poetry in the Seasons”. This performance not only debuts beautiful dances choreographed by Ms. Li, but also showcases a number of excellent Chinese dance repertoires. We will take you on a poetic journey through the four seasons to experience the movements of beauty, and explore the meaning of life.

These three dynamic and award-winning dance artists share their distinctly strong voices and their deep investment and investigations into their own artistic practice and identity as black women. TU Dance is excited to engage with our community and to share and celebrate the perspectives of these three incredibly talented women. ABOUT TU DANCE: The award-winning TU Dance is known for its diverse artistic performances tackling important questions around gender, race, social justice, history, human resilience and more.
