Indian Music Society of Minnesota Presents: Hindustani Vocal Concert of Afternoon Ragas by Brajeswar Mukherjee & Co.
Sunday, May 31
Show: 3 pm // Doors: 2:30 pm
$17.75 to $22.75

The approximate run time is 120 minutes including a 15 minute intermission.

Prepare to be transported by the luminous sounds of the afternoon as we present an extraordinary showcase of Hindustani Classical vocal music featuring the soulful Brajeswar Mukherjee.

A premier disciple of the legendary Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Brajeswar embodies the aesthetic purity and technical brilliance of the Patiala Gharana. Known for his crystalline intonation and the effortless fluidity of his taans, he possesses the rare ability to turn a simple phrase into a profound emotional experience.

The Art of the Afternoon
Unlike evening recitals, an afternoon concert offers a unique opportunity to explore the post-noon and “Sandhiprakash” Ragas —melodies characterized by their contemplative depth, vibrant energy, and shifting colors as the sun begins its descent.

Masterful Accompaniment
The vocal journey is elevated by two world-class musicians:

Gourisankar Karmakar (Tabla): A master of rhythm whose accompaniment is marked by tonal clarity and a deep understanding of the vocalist’s tonal contours.

Kedar Naphade (Harmonium): A leading disciple of Pandit Tulsidas Borkar, Kedar provides a rich, melodic tapestry that shadows and challenges the vocalist in equal measure.

Event Highlights:
Vocal: Brajeswar Mukherjee
Tabla: Gourisankar Karmakar
Harmonium: Kedar Naphade
Theme: Exploring the rare and majestic afternoon Ragas.

Join us for an immersive experience where tradition meets spontaneity. This is more than a concert; it is a meditation in sound.
