“Every part of the body is engaged in fast-paced, fiercely athletic, hip-swiveling, counterpoint-driven propulsive movement…” – Caroline Palmer, Star Tribune

Contempo Physical Dance is known for its Afro-Brazilian contemporary dance fusion, highly physical movement, energetic dancing and invigorating theatrical experiences. Led by Artistic Director Marciano Silva dos Santos, the creator of an “original” dance language, the company is dedicated to movement research, experimentation and expanding the field of contemporary dance by focusing on movement of the African Diaspora.

Join Contempo Physical Dance for a world premiere of "Cool Play" by Senegalese and French choreographer Patrick Acogny, the result of their first international choreography residency thanks to the support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Influenced by traditional gatherings in Senegal, "Cool Play" is a contemporary exploration of individual performances and interactions in the social setting. The evening will also feature selections from a fan-favorite by Marciano Silva dos Santos.

"Batuque" returns to showcase flavors of samba through the company’s distinct Afro-Brazilian contemporary dance fusion.
